Despite being 41, my husband still thinks that Ozzy is the king. He regresses to about age 15 when “Crazy Train” or “Ironman” come up on Sirius. He vows that he will attend OzzFest this year. He will do so alone.

Yesterday on NPR I heard the rather alarming news that 50-year-old Donny Osmond has put out a new CD — which he mixed himself, in his dressing room, between performances of Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast — entitled Love Songs of the 70’s. Few things are more rewarding than personalizing your home to make a statement about yourself. My mom has put up her pictures, placed her furniture, and arranged various elements to suit her taste, and then has left everything that is my height to do with as I see fit. I’d like to share with you some tips for creating an environment that is unmistakably YOU.
Let’s begin with the entryway; people should know who lives in a home immediately upon stepping through the door. Peanut-butter colored Venitian Plaster is so blah, don’t you think? Liven it up with freeform artwork:

What is more lovely than a pile of books wanting to be read? (Besides a pile of European chocolate wanting to be eaten, that is.) Happy book piles rival sleeping baby faces, just-mown grass, and butter pecan ice cream. In fact, combining reading with a napping baby while smelling new-cut grass and rolling Butter Pecan ice cream over my tongue would pretty much approach my version of Nirvana. Throw in the chocolate, mate, and I won’t be back.

This morning in spin class, one of the members was lamenting that she had to send her kids out of the room last night while the TV was on. The cussing and the subject matter, as she described it, was pretty shocking, and she nearly wailed, “And this was on regular TV, not even cable!”
